Join us for golfing fun this Thursday

Have you dreamed of walking inside the ropes with golf's great players?  It's a privilege only a few ever experience.

Until this Thursday, that is.  This Thursday, July 17, you'll be able to walk along with a very memorable foursome.

OK, so maybe it's not a foursome of Nicklaus, Palmer, Player and Watson, but it will be a lot more fun than watching those four, I assume.

This Thursday at 1:50 pm, WNST will host an 18-hole charity challenge match at Mount Pleasant GC on Hillen Rd. and Northern Parkway.  I will be facing three familiar names to WNST listeners and Baltimore area sports fans.  My opponents are:  our morning traffic announcer, Captain Kirk...the Head Basketball Coach for the UMBC Women's team, Phil Stern...and the Head Lacrosse coach of the Towson University Men's team, Tony Seaman.

We're going to raise money for our 2008 charity recipient, the Casey Cares Foundation.  Here's how it will work.  I am going to play from the blue tees and the Captain-Phil-Tony team will play from the white tees.  For every natural par each of those guys make in the 18 holes, I'll donate $2.00 to Casey Cares.  For any hole they beat me on with their best-ball score (if I make a "4" on a hole and just one of them makes a "3", thejir team score is "3" and they win the hole), I'll donate $5.00.  And for every birdie I make in the round, I'm donating $5.00 to Casey Cares.

I'd like to invite all of you out to Mount Pleasant on Thursday to walk along with us and have some fun.  We tee off at 1:50 pm and should be finished around 6:00 pm or so.  If you'd like to meet up with us as we get to the back nine, that should be around 4:00pm.

I'd also like all of you to participate in our fund raiser efforts.  I'd like to find at least 50 people willing to donate a minimum of $20.00.  You can either utilize the same formula I provided above or come up with one of your own.  I'd like to raise at least $1,000 for Casey Cares on Thursday.  Everyone is on the honor system.  Just let me know what you'll pledge and I'll publish the results on Friday and you can send a check to me at the station in care of Casey Cares.

Casey Cares is an outstanding Baltimore non-profit organization that specializes in assisting critically ill children and their families.  You can check out their web-site at www.caseycaresfoundation.org for more information.  All of the monies we raise on Thursday go directly to Casey Cares.  The Baltimore Municipal Golf Corporation is donating the greens fees for Thursday...we thank them very much for that kind gesture.

I have a very special "celebrity caddy" for Thursday.  I won't tell you who it is, but I'll tell you it's a VERY familiar face to Baltimore sports fans.

Please come out and see Mount Pleasant on Thursday.  It was just voted the 12th best public course in the country by Golfweek Magazine and it's in outstanding shape.  You can walk along with us and watch some good (and not so good) golf and help us raise money for Casey Cares at the same time.

Afterwards, join us for a drink in the Mount Pleasant Cafe and we'll total up the scores and the money we raised.

See you Thursday!
