Did you feel it?

On this date in 1979, Doug DeCinces hit a two-run, two-out, ninth-inning homer off of Dave Tobik to give the Orioles a dramatic 6-5 victory over the Tigers.

This was the game that--according to many--started "Oriole Magic".

Where were you that night?

I'll be back later with my memories of that game and that season.

Right now, I have some bowling to do.

I was in my back yard having a BBQ with my Dad...he was holding a bat which almost took my head off when he jumped up and around upon hearing the blast.

I was in Section 34 that night- and it was incredible. The ovation for DeCinces lasted about 20 minutes. It is by far my most memorable live sports moment- the only thing that comes close is the Ravens playoff game against the Broncos. Most of us old timers will tell you that Oriole Magic started in 1977 during a 5 (yes 5) game sweep of the Yankees that year.

Me and a buddy were there in upper reserved. We had a pipe going whilst enjoying the game until I got a tap on the shoulder. Turned around to see a badge in my face and the guy says "put it out" It was cool he didnt run us out of there but he paid for a ticket too and I guess he wanted to enjoy the game which we all did. So when Decinces wins the game we all were jumping around and high fiving like crazy. The cop included.

Next day was the doubleheader, right? Eddie hits a gamewinner in the first game and Crowley hits a 2 run single to win the nightcap. Those 3 games combined to invent Orioles magic and game 4 where we got shut out 4 or 5 to nothing is wiped from our memory. What a season that was. The Stadium rocked all year after that. Attendance spiked and stayed that way for many years to come.

I remember that game Bob.I was in my kitchen listening to Chuck Thompson call the game And I think tha Rhino hit a HR that made it 5-4 with 1 out. Decinces homered but I can't remember who was on base. The following night I went to the doubleheader and in the bottom of the 9th with everyone chanting EDDIE - ED-DIE- EDDIE as Murray walked to the plate. He batted from the right side and hammered a Walk off homerun midway up the yellow Aluminum Bleaches seats in left field. It was incredible. We won the night cap and Sunday the 24th a 9th inning rally fell short to The Tigers when I believe the final out was forced at third base.IT WAS THE BEST YEAR OF BASEBALL IN MY LIFE.The only other season that comes close was when we lost to Harveys Wallbangers in 1982.I thought that those 2 seasons were better than the 1983 year.
